  1. Simplistic.

The US has been in all cases invited by allies to whom they have a responsibility to protect and assist. The US is involved in the Mid east because of Saudi Arabia, and their other muslim allies. Why not blame our muslim allies for wars?

It’s a powerful empire which does everything it wants.
Many christians including acadmic ones have praised that step by US to invade Iraq.

      What’s your point?

The Kurds in Iraq supported the US, and Kuwait provided logistical support as well as the base of ops for the US military. And the Iraqi people celebrated the toppling of Saddam in the early years.

    • Kev, this whole mantra of gas attacks against the kurds is always taken out of context. To begin with, there is no so called kurdish homeland. Iraq has since the beginning of time consisted of the following parts: south with the ancient kingdom of sumer, central iraq with the ancient babylonian kingdom, and finally north iraq (were the kurds are), with the Assyrian kingdom. Saddam and every political authority in iraq knows this, and justifiably on historical grounds rejected kurdish autonomy.

It was the kurdish insinstence for autonomy alongside the kurds in halabja (were the gasing took place) who supported Khomeini of iran against iraq that make up context of the whole gasing episode.

This is not to justify what saddam did in anyway. But only to point out that Saddam did not make it an everyday policy to gas kurds wherevee they are. Unlike turkey, kurds in the major cities of Erbil and Sulaimaiah were allowed to speak and teach in their own language under the Baath regime.

My source: myself of kurdish background.

Gassing the kurds is “taken out of context”?

You are saying that because Saddam limited his gassing of the kurds to, you know, just a couple of times or so, then what? What are you saying?

How does demanding autonomy “add context” to the mass murder of civilians and children?

Don;t tell me this is another one of those things where muslim violence against muslims gets a pass and is considered less evil than non-muslim violence against muslims?

    • Kev, i am not a muslim. Let that be clear.

So let’s move on to your comment.

My point is, Saddam did not constitute an existentiell threat to kurds. Kurds in iraq had more freedom than kurds under the turkish regime. For instance during the 90’s many kurds from turkey fled to iraq under saddam because they knew at least Saddam does not forbid the kurdish language in the traditional dominated kurdish cities of the north like Erbil.

My parents who were raised there say they even had textbooks written in kurdish. Mind you this was under Saddam and Baath regime era.

Add to the fact that kurds have no historical ground to separate from The rest of iraq.

In conclusion: justifying american invasion of iraq was completely wrong. Kurds were not under existentiell threat. The had more freedom compared to other countries where kurds don’t have freedom at all. Finally, no historical grounds to seperate from iraq, something the kurds demamded even before The saddam era in case you will cry “oh but saddam gassed them”

Since you care so much about the kurds, when are you going to petition for The invasion of turkey?

That’s not true. You cannot release such a statment based on your imagination. Have you asked all people in Kurdistan?
Then what are they supposed to do? Fighting you? If they did, you would scream the terrorist people. BTW, why have the missionaries popped suddenly in Kurdistan ?! So after you bombed the people of the land, you send your missionaries as ” angels” to help people?

      Are you even being serious?

Saddam certainly posed an existential threat to the kurds he gassed.

And I haven’t tried to justify the US invasion – where did I do that? All I’ve said is that the US gets blamed for helping its allies, many of whom are muslims, whilst muslim allies of the US are not held to account for their role in seeking US military aid.

Like I said, it takes brutal dictators like Saddam, Ghaddafi and Mubarak to keep blood thirsty islamist groups in check. Paul and even yourself have all but admitted that – without dictatorship, islam happens and ISIS appears.

That is a particularly dumb comment. The US received help from Kurds on northern iraq. Historical fact.

But for godness sake, was it not obvious in what context i said that. When i talk about kurds i think i talk the 5 million kurds of northern iraq and not a few thousands kurds in a small village close to the border of iran who supported khomeini.

Saddam was barely a muslim – his party was secular and guided by marxist principles, and under his rule, islamisation took place solely as a means to boost his political credentials.

Still, your posturing doesn’t change the fact that you condone the repression of muslims from the safety of your armchair in safe blighty. Tell it to the thousands of Kurds murdered by Saddam’s gas attacks.
