Prophetic Biography: revisionism gone wild [Dr. Jonathan Brown]

Dr. Jonathan Brown discusses how revisionist accounts are formed and used to purport alternative narratives of early Islamic history.

This is part of a preview for his course on “The Prophetic Biography.” Dr. Brown explores the Life of the Prophet Muḥammad, and tackles obfuscations that were brought into the study of the Prophet’s life in Western Academia by orientalist scholars and revisionists. He also discusses the methodological framework of the historical critical method, and contrasts that to Islamic traditional source analysis.

This is worth a look.

  1. Great clip. Hope you don’t mind me incorporating this into a post I did a while back – but directly linked in subject matter. JazakAllahu khairan.
