Just one clarifying point since some think (such as @darthtimon) that the fact that Islam rejects one side of democracy which is human sovereignty therefore the only thing that remains in it is “theocracy”: Islam obligates the right of the people to choose their leader, as the Caliph Umar said as recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari:
Whoever gives the pledge of allegiance to anybody among you without consulting the other Muslims, neither that person, nor the person to whom the pledge of allegiance was given, are to be supported.
من بايع رجلا من غير مشورة من المسلمين فلا يتابع هو ولا الذي تابعه
Paulus, Islamic Law is simply a combination of the divine law in other words the Sharia(found in the Quran and Sunnah) in addition to the “Usul al Fiqh” which constitute the Qiyas(analogical reasoning) and Ijma(ratification or Consensus)…the last two are needed to put forth laws that aren’t found in the Quran and the Sunnah…

Sovereignty belongs to god in Islam with one important, unspoken rule- as interpreted by men.
Sharia is mans interpretation. Even then it is not agreed upon. Ergo, Muslims don’t in actuality believe in the sovereignty of god
