Surely it comes down to how individuals feel? Some women have no desire to start families and are very career driven. If such women join the military and are trained up in the same way as men, why should they be told they cannot serve?

Woman can perform many duties in war, but I could not envision them on the front lines, but they are still in harm’s way. Many Soviet women flew Il-2s (a ground attack aircraft), operated anti-aircraft defenses. Also, there are many courage women on the Ho Chi Minh trial delivering supplies to the Viet Cong.
Hey, I wouldn’t be the slightest bit upset if I down a Nazi pilot in Stuka operating air defense. If he’s dead, good riddance.

….seems a question coming from an unbalanced/screwed-up ethico-moral framework!?….
Children, Monks/Preists, Women, Elderly, …etc are categories that are “protected” in the Islamic ethico-moral system as non-combatants—that is why they are not required to serve as combatants. Protected category also includes plants, animals…etc—WAR should not be a “career”—it should be a last resort used for defense against an aggressor. Wars should be exited/ended as soon as possible so that destruction is minimized. This is common senses, wise and ethical. The reason there must be protected peoples and things is so that recovery after the war can progress speedily—this avoids problems such as poverty,famines and immigration as well as spread of diseases that come about through such circumstances….
Even Sun Tzu (art of war) knew this stuff!!—in fact, he says “The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.”—which is what the Prophet did when he went into Mecca and they surrendered….
There is something very unbalanced about a perspective that considers the “frontlines” of WAR as about careers, equality, and gaining “experience/insights”!….but this seems to be the kind of world we are living in?…..
