This evening I attended a wonderful talk by a top scholar of Islam

Is there Justice Outside God’s Law?: Making Sense of the Boundaries of the Sharīʿah in Islamic Civilization by Professor Jonathan Brown, Georgetown University, USA. Lecture was at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

‘This presentation will explore how classical Muslim scholars understood the relationship of the Shariah to justice, and how they reconciled their belief in the rule of law with the urgings of equity.’

  1. How is the reception of Dr.Brown’s work among the British Muslims? I ask this because my impression of British Muslims is that they are close-minded and averse to scholarship that doesn’t come out of Pakistani Madrassahs.
