Amazing: Bart Ehrman Dissects 2 Corinthians

A brilliant intro to textual criticism with a shocking kick! I can confirm that what Ehrman says about 2 Corinthians is the view of most top scholars in the English-speaking world. But pastors, priests and ministers fail to teach their congregations the truth about the Bible’s authorship.

  1. Hello Mr. Williams, you said: “But pastors, priests and ministers fail to teach their congregations the truth about the Bible’s authorship.”

Maybe the reason they don’t is that they don’t believe in these theories. My priest certainly doesn’t buy into them. He holds to the traditional Catholic view of Trent and two millennia of Church history.

A priests duty is not to teach the laity modern theories on scholarship but Church Doctrine as it has been formulated by the Fathers, Doctors, Saints and Councils.

In Islam, a Muslim has to know all about Islam, including its history, language, compilation of the Quran and other scriptures as well as its theology. Allah said, apart from all these a Muslim must seek knowledge on any thing he can. Allah also adviced us to use our intellect a lot. We must not follow a blind faith and challenge us and others to bring our challenge against the Quran.

Any hidden thing by any Islamic scholar is a sin. We do not hide anything.

Christianity has problem with its scriptures before the Church Fathers had to decide to pick others and call it canon and then reject others. It did not start with Bart Erhman but more scholars.

    Thanks.

  3. You said: “In Islam, a Muslim has to know all about Islam”. Really? You need to have read every critical theory about Quranic origins? Every argument against the faith and how to answer it. Everything about history, language, the compilation of the Quran and the other scriptures and theology? Are you sure? If this is true then 99% of self professing muslims on the planet aren’t muslims. I thought to be a muslim you had to believe in one God and that Muhammad is his prophet.

You said: “Any hidden thing by any Islamic scholar is a sin. We do not hide anything.” Nothing is hidden, you can look it up yourself. Regardless, in Church, the doctrine and scriptures are taught. Even in this clip, Ehrman says the epistle could be a combination of 2,3,4, or 5 epistles. Well, which one is it? Unless the priest goes through the arguments of the 2,3,4, or 5 epistles he’s sinning and being deceptive? Maybe you think that way but thats not how priests do it.

To be honest, a lot of parish priests don’t buy into those theories. I don’t either because frankly I think they’re very weak. Whenever I ask these people for physical proof, I get called an ignorant fundamentalist when they can’t produce proof. I’ve read an excessive amount of Raymond Brown and frankly, I’d rather be reading the writings of the Saints. I find they’re way more helpful to the soul.
