The Devil would have known that he had no chance of tempting God himself, and if Jesus was indeed God, the Devil would not even have tried to tempt him.
Jesus even says that he takes nourishment from the message and word of God, and that he will not test his God, “Again it is written, do not put your Lord to the test.”
Jesus is also saying that he will not worship the Devil, for he will only worship God alone, the ONE that created, sent, and empowered him, saying it is written, “Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.”
The passage makes it very clear that Jesus is talking about the God that he worships, and not referring to himself as God.
