On your old blog, you had an article by Tim Winter (Abdal Hakim Murad) who admitted that Sufism / Tasawwuf came later, after Muhammad died. The difference in the words is the fact that one is Arabic (Tasawwuf – تصوف ) and Sufi- Sufi-ism (صوفی) is an English word based on the Arabic word, Tasawwuf – take the T off and you may see the Swf صوف root. Unfortunately, you got rid of all those old articles from your old blog(s) (changed twice).
Tasawwfu or Sufism is not from the original texts or context of Muhammad. It came about after he died; even Tim Winter admitted this. It came about by those Muslims themselves seeking deeper internal reality and relationship with God and spirituality and were dis-illusioned with the dry, ritualistic, legalistic externalisms of Sharia law, etc.
Shariah is concerned with externals, the criminal law, haram and halal foods, commercial transactions, family and social ethics etc. Tasawwuf is concerned with the spiritual life, the state one’s heart, one’s relationship with God, etc. about which the Quran and hadiths say a great deal.

It was not invented by British Orientalists.
