Today’s London Metro has this story:
‘It’s not exactly a ripping yarn, but the Quran is the most popular book of all time. The religious text has been translated into 50 different languages, has nearly 400 editions and more than three billion copies have been printed. The King James Bible is a close runner up, with 2.5 billion copies to its name. In third place is Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung.’

I agree. Its a very good question. I had always understood the Bible to be the world’s best-seller.

But then on the other hand the bible isn’t a A book really, it’s a collection of books. And Christianity never agreed what makes up “the Bible”, even to this day.

It’s a good point about it only mentioning the KJ Bible however ‘d imagine the Quran is the most popular right now and over the span of the last two or three decades easily as I suspect the number of folk rushing off the get a a copy of the Bible is not as much as it was say 50 years ago – certainly the case for Western Europe.
Just looking at that list, I can’t see the 50 Shades book in there. I thought that was the rage. Maybe I needs to be around for a while longer to over take old Robinson Crusoe. And nothing from Orwell in that list. No Hadith collection books in there either….surely more than 9m have been sold of Bukhari.
I wouldn’t hang my hat (not even my beanie) on that
Oh and somebody get on to the publishers of that list, have they made a huge oversight…there’s no James White book in there!!!

They mentioned all the Quran editions collectively (nearly 400 editions) yet they’ve only put one edition of the bible in there (KJV).
If the KJV edition alone has 2.5 billion copies, then including the rest of the bible editions together (as they did with the Quran) would be a number that far surpasses 3 billion.
Perhaps they did not want to give Christianity that satisfaction.
