Can you be righteous? How the New Testament gets it wrong

  1. Some get it wrong. Some writers of the NT believed you can be righteous.

    Luke 1:6 – “Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly”

    Jesus(as) taught you can be righteous

  2. Ecclesiastes 7:20 – For there is no righteous man on earth who does good and sins not.

    The context of no one being “righteous” is in terms of our sins compared to God and his holiness. No one is righteous in that sense because every human being has sinned.
    However, when the Bible says that someone is “righteous” it means that they are carefully or diligently observing God’s commands and Law.
    The word “righteous” can be understood in different contexts depending on how it is used, so there is in fact no contradiction.
