He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. He cried out at the top of his voice, ….
They were astonished at His teaching, because His message had authority! In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean demon. He cried out in a loud voice, “Ha! What do You want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are, the Holy One of God!”
Bart says that the other two accounts of the rich young ruler are described differently, implying the stories are inconsistent. Did it occur to you that more than one person approached Christ in a similar fashion? Some “mysteries” or “errors” or “forgeries” have simple explanations.
I get that I’m fascinating to many, many people, especially those without much of a background in Systematic Theology.
I am always tickled by the ones who get so much pleasure from trying to grab my attention with cute little quips, which demonstrate how big their crush on me really is. Sorry ladies, I am happily married.
I recognize you have good taste, though, and I’m betting you will find a perfectly suitable significant other if you just keep trying. I am too busy with important matters to keep you spellbound, so don’t take it personally that I will not be able to respond to you in kind.
The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
His enemies knew who He was, without His assistance. They had no trouble identifying exactly who and what He was. They had no doubts. Some who have wished He was for real have had plenty of doubts. Those who detested Him? ah, He scared them to His death. He played no politics with them; He made no effort whatsoever to try to appease them.
What is more fascinating about this exchange is how unbelievably self-righteous and utterly blind they were to their own absurdity and to God’s heart. Just like in every age, they, too, were devout religious professionals who studied sacred texts day and night! and they wanted to kill the guy because He made someone well, on a special day. It was far more important for them to make sure others observed a sabbath day in a fashion God never intended, than to relieve the suffering of a human being. Self-righteous, religious people make it hard for others to see God sometimes. And that gets God pissed off.
Just as it was then, His enemies ensure knowledge of Him spreads like wildfire.
Dylan, “and I, I don’t mind the pain, don’t mind the driving rain, cause I believe in you. You put this feeling in my heart. Don’t let me drift apart, cause I believe in you.”
He is the God of of everything, He’s inside you and me. So lean upon Him gently and don’t call on Him to save you from your social graces and the sins you wish to waive. You wish to waive. And the unsung western hero, he killed an Indian or three and made his name in Hollywood to set the white man free. O Jesus save me. Confuses me as to who and what and why, as to how he gets his kicks. He gets his kicks. Confessing to the endless sin, the endless whining sounds. You’ll be praying to next Thursday to all the gods that you can count.
