Blogging theology: a new direction

Salam,

today I start a new blog that will engage with the following subjects:

 * what it means to be Muslim in the West;

 * an emphasis on spirituality/sufism

 * responding to current affairs.

I will no longer be polemically engaged against other religions.  This was a key feature of my previous blogging which generated much more heat than light. (This does not mean that I will not attempt to articulate the Islamic view on, say, the Trinity, but not as an ongoing focus of my writing).  My recent meeting with Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad at Cambridge University has helped to steer me in this new direction. My gratitude to him is profound.

  1. I might run a few (apologetics based) articles for your approval from time to time!

  2. Salam. I unfortunately got too sick and was unable to sick my exam. 😦

    I was intending to reply to the discussions we were having in the past (with Eric, etc,.), but considering you’ve changed the direction of this blog, I’m not sure if it would be respectful of me in doing so — I won’t mind doing it with your permission (although I can’t find the original posts anymore). Regardless, I no longer think baseless apologetics and debates achieve much — it’s just one poor argument after another.

    In all sincerity, the best way to learn is to simply read with objectivity, and not with some religious bias — refraining from futile debates is probably the healthiest form of pursuing knowledge.

    Paul, you might interested in Gabriel S. Reynold’s article “On The Presentation of Christianity in the Qurʾān and the Many Aspects of Qurʾānic Rhetoric”.
