In Turkey, 86.6% of the people vote in parliamentary elections.
In Palestine, 77% of the people vote.
In Indonesia, 75.1% of the people vote.
In Iran, 64.2% of the people turn out.
In Pakistan, 53.6% of the people.

Contrast this with the United States where only 42.5% turn out to vote in midterm elections.
Egypt, which the US boasts about being one of it’s best allies in the Arab world and El-Sisi “restoring democracy” after overthrowing a democratically elected government, had 0.00% voter turnout despite voting being compulsory.
Now take these numbers and contrast them with the amount of content from US media lamenting the lack of democracy, “Islamist influence” and the presence of authoritarianism in the first five countries mentioned above as well as others.

Now ask yourself, are you truly represented in government and media?

  2. My only problem with this article is that the author seems to begin with the assumption that goverments in Turkey and Iran are uncorrupted. The reality is, they are highly corrupted.

  3. And the way in which America props up royal families in the Gulf. For some reason I don’t think those Royals’ were voted in.

It’s all hypocrisy. the government never gets called out on it as the media is not independent, it’s tied into the government, moguls who are agenda-driven and/or sponsors who don’t want to rock the boat.

When we start seeing brave journalism we may start seeing a more clued up society
