Jewish And Christian Ages of Consent.

Here are some quotes offered by Brother Jesus regarding the  age of consent concerning the Bible and Jewish traditions, the interesting thing to note here is that the post-modern ages of consent we see in the Western world are not Biblical. Hence, the ages of consent in Christian America and Christian Europe are not in line with the Bible as the Biblical teaching is in fact puberty which can take place as early as 8 years of age.

Are American and British ages of consent Biblical? No.

The Bible provides no foundation for fixing a minimum age, that much is evidently clear.

Carol L. Meyers writes:
“The Bible gives us no indication as to the age of marriage for women, which would not be appreciably different from the age at which childbearing begins. However, based on the tenuous calculations of the marriage age of…

  1. Ezekiel 16 is talking about girls who had finished puberty. If you look closely it use past tense(formed and grew) Most 11-13 breast aren’t formed; forming yes and are still growing. Girls end puberty mostly around 16-17 years. It does use the word grew(past tense of grow and growing is future tense) and developed fight(or something similar) Everybody knows that preeteens and young teens are still growing and developing physical and mentally, they are still going through puberty. Most(not all) lf them are in their early stages of puberty1,2, and 3 actually 1 is prepuberty). Since that the verse use past tense it is likely to believe that the age of consent in the bible is the late stage of puberty(4the and 5th). God bless you!

  2. I mean look at this verse again

7″I made you numerous like plants of the field. Then you grew up, became tall and reached the age for fine ornaments; your breasts were formed and your hair had grown. Yet you were naked and bare. (KJV)7I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare

It said you have grew up(preteens and youngs teens are still growing and developing both physically and mentally), Became tall means that she had reach full adult height(16-17 ) If it said the word form or forming instead of form then it would be talking about someone in their second or third stage if puberty. But no it use past tense for formed and grew.

  3. I agree with melanie. Girls and boys go through puberty at various different ages, there is no set age. Some start earlier than others and even then, the duration of puberty will differ based on so many different factors.

Even if the age of marriage in the bible was puberty, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t as simple as just marrying off your son or daughter as soon as possible. Older ages such as late teens are beneficial because it gives the boy or girl more time to mature physically and mentally.
Besides there’s a difference between marriage and sex. Someone can be married at a young age such as 12 but doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ve had sex yet. We have to make a distinction between what we mean when we say “age of consent”.
And if the bible is silent on age of consent for marriage, then that leaves room for people to decide as they see best, especially between the 2 families who would wish to have their children married, and the 2 children themselves to decide.
