No need to let loose the Islamophobic dogs of hell on this story

This afternoon the British media has been permitted by the courts to report on the extremely disturbing case of Richard Huckle, 30, who filmed himself abusing babies and raping children as young as three then shared them on the dark web.

The Sun newspaper exclaimed:

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 17.59.15

Tucked away in the details of this terrible case the Sun reports:

‘He targeted an impoverished Christian community in Malaysia. Practising Christian Huckle first visited Malaysia on a teaching gap year when he was 18 and went on to groom children while doing voluntary work.’

The Mail online reports matter-of-factly:

‘On his trips back to England he worshipped in Christian churches in London and Kent, which he used as a stepping stone to further the abuse abroad.’

It goes without saying that if this individual had come from a Muslim background, let alone one who regularly attended a mosque and was a ‘practicing’ Muslim the headlines would have highlighted his religion in their headlines, something like this..

Britain’s worst paedophile: MUSLIM who raped kids as young as 3, volunteered in orphanages and awarded himself points for his offences.

But Richard Huckle is one of us: a middle-class white English guy from Kent. Therefore his faith is merely incidental to his crimes and his religion is not highlighted. Which is as it should be – unless of course, perish the thought, he was a Muslim. Then let loose the Islamophobic dogs of hell!

  1. Thanks for proving that not every piece of crap you find in the woods belongs to a bear.
