  1. It seems that the Jews came to the point of being firmly convinced that Mohammed was a threat to their existence and they had no choice but to take measures for their own protection. After they rejected Mohammed’s claims he became angry and wanted revenge to regain his honour. Otherwise he would have lost face with his followers as an islamic prophet

The Jews decided that they could not defend themselves alone and sought help.

As a sovereign group of people they had the right to make alliances and sell weapons to whom they would.

I think I have got the background scenario fairly accurate. As it is depicted in the sources. Whether any of this is historical is another matter.

Does this constitute sufficient grounds for Mohammed to wage war against them? Methinks not. Particularly as the Jews themselves never attacked Mohammed. There is no record in the sources of such an attack? Unlike Mohammed the Jews of Mohammed’s time never got any revelations to attack other peoples.

So under what circumstances would it have been sufficiently justified for Muhammad (saw) to wage war against them?

    I reply:

If the Jews had waged war as a group against Mohammed he would have been justified to wage war against them in response.

It is forbidden to be the first to shed blood. This is the teaching of the OT.
