Sorry to tell you, but women who wear the headscarf are no less prone to engaging in sexual sin than those who don’t. I lived in a muslim majority country for almost 15 years, and I can assure you, the headscarf guarantees nothing. I could go into the gory details if you want, but many of these girls who wear the covering remain “chaste” and protect their virginity by engaging in what we would call alternative means of pleasure.
Your post exposed the thinking behind the rape crisis in areas of Europe with high concentrations of muslim migrants.
bizarrely you think this post is about women committing sexual sin. Look again. The flies represent the unwanted attention given to women by lascivious men. Hijab is a protection and symbol of chastity. Here in London it certainly is effective.
Christian women in general do not wear the hijab even though the NT orders them to. Christians should be inspired by Muslims to return to good, decent values.
Sorry, but headscarfed women get rapes a lot too. In Egypt, for example, roughly 98% of women report being sexually molested, 75% of Egyptian women wear the headscarf. If there is a problem of lascivious men, then these men need to change their behaviour, not the women.
Would you say that we should avoid islamophobia by forcing all muslims to dress in western clothing styles? This is your bizarre and illogical argument here.
Even if true it does not change the obvious facts of human nature:
If a woman walks around half naked – as many do in the West in the summer months – they are directly (or indirectly) inviting the indiscriminate sexual interest of men around them. It is a form of enticement. To deny this is to be naive about the facts of male sexuality.
Islam values modesty for men and women. It covers up what should be hidden from public gaze. The West encourages women to undress in the name of freedom. Just look at the ubiquitous advertising and fashion industry. The result is unwanted sexual advances and molestation.
Dude, your post is making the bold claim that the hijab prevents sexual crime. I have evidence that 98% of Egyptian women have been molested, you have shown no evidence that putting a bag over a woman’s face prevents sexual crimes.
Bobby your own scriptures say women must wear the veil:
Any woman who prays or prophesies with her head unveiled disgraces her head—it is one and the same thing as having her head shaved. 6 For if a woman will not veil herself, then she should cut off her hair; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or to be shaved, she should wear a veil. 7 For a man ought not to have his head veiled, since he is the image and reflection of God; but woman is the reflection of man. 8 Indeed, man was not made from woman, but woman from man. 9 Neither was man created for the sake of woman, but woman for the sake of man. 10 For this reason a woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels…. Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head unveiled?
1 Cor 11
In your hatred of Islam you are willing to throw your own Bible under the bus!
The context for that text is Christian worship. Why are you applying this to women walking around half naked in summer? That is poor application based on erroneous Islamic assumptions.
In Indonesia, the largest Muslim country, most young Muslim women I saw wear the hijab when outside, alongside their tight jeans/pants and tight tops showing off you know what. The hijab does nothing to prevent lust or to stop sexual expression- it’s simply just a dumb cultural piece of clothing.
Not to mention that when at home the hijab comes straight off, so that when I walk down the street almost all the women are uncovered because they are not “out”, thus the absurdity of man made religious requirements that we always find loopholes for
Paul, why don’t you actually move to a Muslim country before you peddle your idealised version of sharia and Islam that never actually fits reality of the Muslim world
Paulus, why do Christian women not obey the NT teaching? And do you advise women to cover up in church?
You claim women must wear the veil only for worship (not that they ever do). But I am not convinced.
Paul says women were created for men. And so women must have a ‘symbol of authority’ on their heads (the veil aka hijab). So it doesn’t make sense for women to throw off their public symbol of submission to men just because they are outside a church building. Elsewhere Paul tells women “to pray without ceasing”.
“For a man ought not to have his head veiled, since he is the image and reflection of God; but woman is the reflection of man. Indeed, man was not made from woman, but woman from man. 9 Neither was man created for the sake of woman, but woman for the sake of man. 10 For this reason a woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels…. The hijab describes the whole covering of Muslim women. It is not only the headscarf. So you’re right that there are problems with the ways some or many Muslim women dress today with the headscarf.
I don’t know what south-east Asian non-Muslims used to wear but Western women had the veil and it was based on Christianity while your culture is probably based on the south-east Asian pagan tradition even after converting. So you should have more respect to the people who brought you your religion and not call their cultural clothing dumb.
“man made religious requirements”
Another guy who does not know whether he is a Christian or feminist.
But remember, St. Paul was a man and the rules he made for women sound like they are coming from personal experience indeed. So you should not start with this.
“Not to mention that when at home the hijab comes straight off, so that when I walk down the street almost all the women are uncovered because they are not “out”,..”
Not having curtains is like being out.
“Your Islamic bias is unconvincing.”
Slutty clothing is that much established among even believing Christians that you cannot go against it. You simply can’t go against the majority of women. That is your bias. The other problem is that you would then sound like a Muslim and you can’t do this.
Maybe someone has an Islamic bias but in order to know what the actual Christian position is we will have to look at what the traditional pre-modern Christian said about it. Stop bringing up your interpretations but give references to these.
@Frank, you are either Christian or feminist. You can’t be both so choose one! If you choose Christianity you will not be able to criticize the hijab. You will have to support it.
Unfortunately, hatred for Judaism and Islam has blinded many “Christians” to the true teachings of the Prophets, and led them into misinterpretation of their own scriptural texts.
“17Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.”
But Paul is talking about what should be done when the church comes together for worship.
You claim women must wear the veil only for worship. But I am not convinced.

Why did Rebekah only veil herself after she arrived at the residence of Isaac and not before when she was already betrothed to him?
If a woman should veil herself in public constantly after reaching maturity Rebekah was disobedient.
Genesis 24 v 57 And they said, We will call the damsel, and inquire at her mouth. 58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go. 59 And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant, and his men.
Genesis 24 v 64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. 65 For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself.
It is Ironic that the only religion today that exhorts women en masse to follow the example of the Blessed Mother Virgin Mary is not Christianity…..but rather Islam.
Alhamdulillah, Muslim Hijabi’s are closer to Mary than the vast majority of Christian women today. They are closer to her not only in appearance, but also in spirit, belief, and practice. Because, if anyone knew Jesus was a fully human Prophet, and not God himself, it was his own Mother. Never in the Bible do we read that Mary worshipped her own son as God!
Whilst I appreciate what the picture is trying to say, I have a question:
When a child is born, does it come out wrapped or completely naked?
If I remember what some Muslims tell me, a true hijabi is one who begins in the heart not the outside. I just saw a post here recently about Allah looking at the hearts of individuals not the external appearance. Likewise, in 1 Samuel 16:7 God rejected all of David’s older brothers as kings and said a similar thing, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart”
I know many Muslim women who wear hijabs who have poor characters and some who commit grave sins despite their attire, likewise I also know many Muslim women who wear no hijabs and are of good character. That observation goes for men and women alike all over the world, regardless of religion, race or background.
I would prefer a woman who has a good character over the clothes that she wears any day. That isn’t to say I’m condoning people to run around the streets naked just because they’re nice people but that it doesn’t make a big difference whether a woman wears a hijab or not if it does nothing to change her.
The hijab should be default. Based on this we can talk about what else is there.
Please also note that a woman that does not cover herself cannot have a good character. I don’t necessarily mean covering the hair but the other important parts of the body when we talk about non-Muslim women since it would be weird for them to cover their hair.
Thinkwell,
You question: “When a child is born, does it come out wrapped or completely naked?” We all know the obvious answer, however figuratively speaking, one could say that the child is born “wrapped” in the Fitra of Allah. This means that the child is born with the innate, instinctive knowledge of right and wrong, and of the existence of a higher supreme being that is deserving of worship. If the child remains on the fitra as it grows and matures, he will be led along the path of Islam, (God’s religion of absolute monotheism) and the child, in its adulthood will endeavor to obey the commandments of God, enjoining the good and forbidding the evil. Obeying the commandments of God, includes many things, one of which includes covering (Hijab) the Awrah (private parts) of the body for both men and women.
I agree with your Muslim friends who say, “a true hijabi is one who begins in the heart not the outside.” HOWEVER, this is not an excuse not to wear hijab. A true Muslim prays every day “Guide us to the Straight Path” [Sura Al-Faatihah 1:6]; And in her efforts to remain rightly guided, the true believing woman would adhere to the orders of Allah and wear the hijab that the believing women are commanded to wear. same for men. Therefore, Hijab is a default position of someone who strives to please God. Wearing Hijab does not preclude the possibility of sin, Muslims are people too, and we all make mistakes. We all have different levels and stations, but we should each strive to compete with each other in improving our piety. If a person falls in to sin after or while wearing Hijab, that is between them and Allah, and he is all forgiving, of those who turn to him in repentance Alhamdulillah.
Yes, you are right, good character is more important than clothes, but clothes do communicate something about who we are inside and what we believe in. One who wears hijab communicates respect for self, family, community, society, tradition, culture, religion, co-religionists, and ultimately respect for God.
Yes, God does look into our hearts, and judges our mindful intention, but likewise, our actions are judged as well. The action of dressing modestly and wearing Hijab, is in itself an act of worship and is a symbol and a reminder of al-hayah, and dignity and ones commitment to abiding by the commandments of Allah. Therefore one who is wearing Hijab is constantly self reminded that Allah is watching and therefore it is best refrain from committing sin in the first place.
What a twisted question. Making women responsible for men’s sexual conduct in this way is a disgrace. It also insinuates that women who don’t use veils are sluts and that men are too weak to control themselves.
Sunshine,
There is no such insinuation You are projecting your own misinterpretations on to Islamic belief and custom.
Do you believe the Virgin Mother Mary wearing hijab, as you so vilely say, “insinuates that women who don’t use veils are sluts and that men are too weak to control themselves.”As a Muslim, I would never insult the Blessed Virgin Mary in such a way as you have with your rude and rash words.
I prefer to believe that the she was honoring herself and her God, by dressing modestly in obedience to the commandments.
Sunshine,
My apologies if I misunderstood you. But I think you may be reading the meme too literally, the issue is deeper than the picture might allude.
…while the wrapped candy is protected from all the dirt. It is messages like this one which helps preserving the strange concept that women should be responsible for men’s sexual conduct because men are far too weak to control themselves.
I just see it as saying without the hijab (note hijab here is holistic modest dress sense and not just a head covering) one will be afflicted by more undesirable attention.
Everyone has to control oneself to not do drugs. But does that mean that we should tolerate someone doing it in front of us?
A pious woman does cover herself. Period. She does it for her own chastity in the first place. Your problem is simply that women in your family are probably not dressed very modestly like most women anyway. You cannot call them what they are for it but you will attack Islam in order to legitimise this perversion.
…a concept which is embraced by self proclaimed male “moral” guardians in our immigrant neighbourhoods, who call unveiled women “whores”, and stop at nothing to impose their whiffy opinions on others, not even death threats or violence.
…a concept which is embraced by self proclaimed male “moral” guardians in our immigrant neighbourhoods, who call unveiled women “whores”, and stop at nothing to impose their unpleasant opinions on others, not even death threats or violence.
That sounds like the typical right-winged stuff Tommy Robinson and others say.
But even if it was true, what’s the problem? If you are a Christian you should not have any problems with some morality being enforced in this extensively liberal society.
Just going to put this here at the request of a friend and you can have a read through it if you want. You can comment if you want. I feel like this is a bad idea. I should know better than this.
Also, are you saying that women are literally candy and men swarm around them like flies?
You know what, never mind. From the rest of the comments I’ve seen here, common sense isn’t so common.
Disgraceful.

Ibn Issam: I am of course referring to the post. See the flies attacking the unwrapped candy, making it soiled and filled with bacteria?

Sunshine,
My apologies if I misunderstood you. But I think you may be reading the meme too literally, the issue is deeper than the picture might allude.

…while the wrapped candy is protected from all the dirt. It is messages like this one which helps preserving the strange concept that women should be responsible for men’s sexual conduct because men are far too weak to control themselves.

Let the sunshine in,
I think that is an unfair inference on your part.

That sounds like the typical right-winged stuff Tommy Robinson and others say.
But even if it was true, what’s the problem? If you are a Christian you should not have any problems with some morality being enforced in this extensively liberal society.

Libel, death threats and violence are criminal acts, Rider. I find it remarkable that I have to point that out to you.
