Lord Sacks continues, “Science tells us how, but not why. Technology gives us power but cannot guide us as to how to use that power. The market gives us choices but leaves us uninstructed as to how to make those choices. The liberal democratic state gives us freedom to live as we choose but refuses, on principle, to guide us as to how to choose.”

What sort of meaning can religion offer that cannot be achieved with an atheistic world view?

A promise from God of eternal bliss to those who believe and do good works.
Surah 9:72
God has promised to the believers, men and women, Gardens under which rivers flow to dwell therein forever, and beautiful mansions in Gardens of ‘Adn (Eden Paradise). But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of God. That is the supreme success.

Meaning throughout our human experience, in our ability to will and act, in justice, etc. I think you had a discussion with brother Paul in which you said something like: as a determinist you don’t believe in justice. That’s one thing in which your atheistic world view finds no meaning.

Unfortunately, many in the world today have been led to believe that the meaning of life is to shop at Wal-Mart, eat at McDonalds, sit in the La-Z-Boy chair and watch football, or reality TV all day. So many people are caught up in this or a similar soul crushing daily life, blindly, mindlessly, feeding the physical body, without feeding the soul with spiritual nourishment, knowledge from the nur (light) of Allah. What a sad meaningless existence the secular world has substituted as a distraction from only thing that can give true meaning to life of all humankind………the One who is the source of all existence!
O’ Allah, save us from the distractions of this world, and guide us on the straight path of Islam!

Wouldn’t secularists say “There is no meaning therefore the why is irrelevant” ? or at least the “why” is the mechanical cause and effect of all things. I don’t think that “Why” is the correct word to use. Perhaps more “for what purpose or reason”.
