Was Rebekah 3-10 Years Old When Married Off To Isaac?

Discover The Truth

The Bible says yes. This article seeks to complement our previous article on the age of Rebecca when she was married off to Isaac. We showed evidence from the Bible, and earliest commentaries on the Bible that Rebecca was married at the age of 3-10 years old to Isaac.

Some Christian missionaries could not accept the article’s evidence that Rebecca was married off at a very young age. As such, we aim to give more crucial evidence from the Bible and earliest sources on Rebecca’s true age at the time of her marriage.

We explained and established in previous piece a number of facts:

1. Sarah gave birth to Isaac at the age of ninety (Genesis 17).
2. Isaac was in his thirties when the incident of Mount Moriah occurred with his father, Abraham (Genesis 22).
3. Immediately after Isaac and Abraham’s incident on Mount Moriah, Rebecca is born (Genesis…

  1. Hi Paul
    You are trying it again!

    The text does not say she was born there and then, the bible is giving a short geneology of the family.

    20 And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she hath also born children unto thy brother Nahor;

    21 Huz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,

    22 And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.

    23 And Bethuel begat Rebekah: these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham’s brother.

    The verse does not say she was just born or that she was three years old, its quite sad you dont have anything better to post.

    This is a retread as the Muslims are running out of meaningful things.to discuss.

    Is this a veiled attempt to protect your prophet?

    • You forgot to read this bit…

      “As this brief article shows, the event of Mount Moriah, the birth of Rebekah (Genesis 22) and the death of Sarah (Genesis 23:1-3) happened simultaneously at the same time. This interpretation that these events occurred at the same time is accepted by some of the earliest ancient/medieval scholars, thus showing that Isaac was in his 30s when her mother died.

      Isaac was born when Sarah was 90 years old (Genesis 17:15-22). Sarah died at the age of 127, this would make Isaac 37 at the time of her mother’s demise (Genesis 23:1-3). Rebecca was born when Isaac was in his late 30s (Genesis 22). Isaac married Rebecca when he was 40-years-old (Genesis 25:20) This means, that Rebekah was between the ages of 3 to 10 years old when she was married off to Isaac.”

      Mathematically from the chronology of the life and death of the Mother and her Birth there is no getting around the ages of 3-10.

      Whats even more hilarious is the fact that you say that it doesn’t mean she was born “there and then” makes the whole genealogy impossible as it would mean all there ages were wrong.

      I know you guys have trouble with simple arithmetic (yes the trinity) but please at least use a calculator…

    • Hi
      The chronological order is not the same as geneology, the verses are the end of chapter 22 are dealing with the family line of Abraham’s brother Nahor it is stating the order the children were born and not when they were born.

      In verse 20 was Abraham being told that Rebecca was being born?
      Or was he being told that his brother had 8 children and also a granddaughter?

      Where does the text say she was born the same time Sarah died?

      That is what you would like to get out of the text but it is not there.

      And i dont the trinity has anything to do with what we are talking

      Donald Trump said. Gay marriage is the law of the USA so he cannot overturn it. That is the modern day law together with age limit of 14,15,16,17,18 etc. accept in different part of the world. So we are not interested in the age Aisha got married because at that time there was no age limit about marriage and no Jewish or Christians blamed prophet Mohammed on other things but not the age of Aisha.

      If is disingenuous to follow David Wood, Sam Shamoun, Pamela Geller etc. who are not Islamic scholars like Dr. John L. Esposito of Georgetown university, Dr. Graig Considine, Lesley Hazelton, Karen Armstrong etc.

      The un scholars make are interested about the age of Aisha like you but the scholars are not interested about the age of Aisha because both the Bible and the Quran did not set agel limit for marriage but rather stressed on puberty before marriage and sex.

      The Bible and the Quran are not interested in age limit before marriage and sex but on puberty, so we are not interested as well.

      If you are interested on age limit like Sam Shamoun or David Wood then tell them to be interested in the same sex marriage which is recent law like the age limit and to blame Prophet Moses and Lot for not allowing gay marriage at that time.

      Thanks.

      You seem to think that scholars are the only ones that have a brain, the bible is not a hard book to understand but it does take a fair bit of studying too.

      You seem to think that christians dont understand the historical background to the text.

      So from the text what do you see a geneaology of Abraham’s brother or a girl just been.

      And then Intellect starts talking about Shamoun and Wood what do they have to do with anything?

      Lets just deal with the text

    Isaac was born when Sarah was 90 years old (Genesis 17:15-22). Sarah died at the age of 127, this would make Isaac 37 at the time of her mother’s demise (Genesis 23:1-3). Can you please quote from the Rabbi’s or the Midrash where Rebecca’s birth is linked with the death of Sarah please.

    In the Onkelos on the Torah and Midrash all it is really talking about is the connection between Isaac and the death of his mother Sarah it has nothing to do with the birth of Rebecca.

    You are desperately trying to change what the bible says to suit your own belief.

    The verse seems to be giving us a genealogy of Abraham’s brothers children and granddaughter which to me is revealing something that has already happened and not about to happen.

    We don’t know how long before Abraham was told about his brothers children when Rebecca was born.

  4. DIscover the Truth – AKA Lying Pir-vert

    This post is desperate. You keep pushing an argument that exposes your stupidity.

    Here’s what Gen 22:20-24 says…

    20 Some time later Abraham was told, “Milkah is also a mother; she has borne sons to your brother Nahor: 21 Uz the firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel (the father of Aram), 22 Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph and Bethuel.” 23 Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milkah bore these eight sons to Abraham’s brother Nahor. 24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also had sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maakah.

    According to you, since rebecca’s birth is revealed to Abraham when he returned from Mt Moriah, you think this means that she was born at that time. If we use your reasoning, Bethuel must have been born at the same time since his birth is revealed at the same time.

    So, your reasoning leaves us with the conclusion that both Bethuel and his daughter Rebecca were born simultaneously and are the same age.

    Obviously you are stupid. Stop embarrassing your prophet.

      we all know that yhwh likes to be born of women and suckle them , but when it comes to understanding birth of rebekah

      the response from academia biblical was :

      It’s all supposed to be past tense – a news update – about Abraham’s brother and his descendants and to provide geneological credentials for Rebecca. Everyone mentioned as being born is supposed to be understood as having already been born before the binding of Isaac. It’s not predictive prophecy but a family newsletter about his brother and a background check for Rebecca. From the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges:

      Verse 20. – And it came to pass after these things (probably not long after his return to Beersheba), that it was told (by some unknown messenger or accidental traveler from Mesopotamia) Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah (vide Genesis 11:29), she hath also born children unto thy brother Nahor – as Sarah has born a son to thee. From this it would almost seem as if Milcah had not begun to have her family at the time Abram left Ur of the Chaldees; but vide Genesis 11:30. The present brief table of Nahor’s descendants is introduced for the sake of showing the descent of Rebekah, who is soon to become Isaac’s wife.

    Don’t you know the difference between Chronological order and genealogy, it is obvious from the verse that they are listing the members of Abrahams brother’s children.

    That rather strikes as an excuse to deny young girls (and boys too, in some cases) the right to determine their own future.

    I say;
    -But you are happy for the introduction of gay sex curriculum in under age schools to shape their future as gays
    -You are happy for the sort of decision that would shape children(under age) to have sex and shape their lives as prostitutes and gay lesbians as young as the are and will marry same sex.
    -You are happy when straight young girls( and boys too, in some cases) are bombarded with gay sex education at schools to change their straight path to gay path.

    That is the law today. Same sex marriage and gay sex curriculum at schools and that was made on behalf of young under age people to shape their future as gay.

    If a child is straight and the law on its behalf today is to teach gay sex in school could shape his future as gay-from straight to gay as the decision made by today’s law to shape a child’s future as gay, lesbian, transgender, etc.

    Some cities have started to make a man entry into women’s bathroom because he is gay, transgender etc. This decision made on behalf of mankind to shape all of us as gay has to be condemned by you darthtimon instead of stressing on new laws that weren’t present at the time of the prophets.

      Firstly, arranged marriages where the child’s place in the decision-making of their own future is completely different to education about same-sex marriage and the existence of same-sex relationships (which is in turn completely different to this weird idea of a ‘gay sex curriculum’). I have never argued for laws or rules that would somehow shape a person into becoming gay (and frankly, the idea of some sort of conversion process is hysteria).

      So the bottom line is, not only is much of your post not actually referring to the discussion at hand, it is a string of lies and, if i may continue to be blunt, hysterical nonsense.

      Teaching under age child in primary and elementary school about sex? and about same sex sex? Hmmm. These people are considered under age and not to marry but you are teaching them about sex. It is like teaching me how to eat meat and say my age is not fit to eat meat.

      You better teach them not to have sex until they are married.

      How on earth must you teach someone you consider a child how to have sex? including same sex education. No wonder the world is now becoming populated with more gays, lesbians, transgenders etc. because the children have education that shape them towards that.

      The Bible and the Quran did not cut age limit but stressed on puberty. At puberty, before these modern laws a child knows his right and wrong and automatically knows the right sex for himself which is natural without any decided sex education to shape his life for him.

      Swimmers, Tennis players like Serena Williams and her sister, sprinters etc. started when they were young and it shaped them to like and know their discipline.

      Teaching about 100 children sex and gay sex will get about 2 of them to be gays because they will try it at home and about 80 will have sex after marriage and about 20 will be pregnant and that is why there is unwanted teenage pregnancies in the secular world. The unwanted pregnancies leads to abortions and killing of babies.

      The Quran said, if a person reaches puberty, he is a grown person and knows right and wrong and his good deeds and evil deeds will start to be recorded and he will be responsible for that and he/she can marry and have a child.

      The Jews and Arabs have customs of introducing their young girls to their would be husband and it is in the Bible as well. At that time no sex until be person is matured and the marriage will take place with his/her concern.

      At puberty any one has the right to accept or reject his/her man/woman. In our prophet’s case the parents of Aisha called her the second time when she was matured to seek her consent. It is not force.

      Thanks.

      I say;
      My dear brother. This is what was used from the time of Adam without age limit until sometimes in the middle of the 1900’s. Young girls are not attracted to anyone except a pedophile. A woman at puberty with tantalizing parts is ready both mentally and physically.

      If they are not now, may be it is because the age limit has caused that but before the age limit laws, puberty was the yardstick for marriage.

      The age limit has allowed the same age to have sex and we are having child prostitutes, teenage pregnancies, disrespect, drugs and prostitution. Child porno is not spared.

      I say;
      “Education about same-sex”. It was not there from the time of Adam. Not even for the past 5 years but children know their sexual orientations. Education about same-sex can tune the mind of minors to follow this abnormal practices of same-sex.

      Islam religion says it is abnormal and someone with that desire must be helped and advised to come to the straight relationship and marry with the opposite sex to have family.

      Arrange marriages happens in the Buckingham Palace, Churches, Hollywood, workplaces etc. and there is nothing wrong about arrange marriage as far us the two man and woman love each other.

      In the Jewish, Arab and some African traditions, a young girl is arranged and introduce to her future husband. If she is old enough to decide, she will be asked to decide. She can decide she does not want the marriage.

    • Intellect,

      A system which absolutely fails to consider a child’s mental or emotional state when pushing her into sexual relationships isn’t a system worth having. The evidence for this is present in the language you used ‘tantalisng parts’. So basically, a girl is deemed a woman and ready for sex if men begin to desire her. That’s a woeful system and I am thankful my daughter doesn’t have to grow up in a society that deems her worthiness as whether or not she appears sexually mature (and doesn’t give a damn about her psychological well-being).

      An age of consent helps spare the child from the manipulation of adults who aren’t interested in anything other than their own gratification. It doesn’t mean there aren’t problems, but it’s incredibly naive to think the issues you listed (child prostitution, teen pregnancies and so on) didn’t happen back then – and in fact, given that there was clearly defined notion of childhood back then, it would not surprise me to learn if these problems were WORSE.

      I finally understand your argument about same-sex relationships but it’s STILL not related to the subject of arranged marriages. I’m still waiting for an explanation of that.

      Moreover, your argument is wrong. By your logic, we should keep kids ignorant, and by your logic, education can trigger homosexual tendencies (this isn’t how it works). If a person is curious they will be curious REGARDLESS, but if they’ve received an education they won’t be going in blind.

      Religious arguments against same-sex relationships are irrelevant. They are also veering off subject (again).

      I also mentioned in my previous post that some arranged marriages work. However, even those still represent a denial of choice, usually for the girl, but sometimes for both parties. Given the stigma surrounding divorce, and given the cultures that tend to support arranged marriage, what recourse is there to get out of such a marriage once already married, especially for the female?

      Jesus Christ commanded and allow his prophets to sleep with their daughters and that is incest. Will you sleep with your own child?

      And the elder said to the younger Our father is old, and there is no man left on the earth, to come in unto us after the manner of the whole earth. Come, let us make him drunk with wine, and let us lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. And they made their father drink wine that night: and the elder went in and lay with her father: but he perceived not neither when his daughter lay down, nor when she rose up. And the next day the elder said to the younger: Behold I lay last night with my father, let us make him drink wine also to night, and thou shalt lie with him, that we may save seed of our father. They made their father drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in, and lay with him: and neither then did he perceive when she lay down, nor when she rose up. So the two daughters of Lot were with child by their father. [Genesis 19:31-36]

      Our prophet married a woman who reached puberty and there was no age limit at that time. No Jew or Christian at that time found anything wrong about his marriage but they found so many things wrong about his new religion. If that marriage was wrong they would have used it to against him.

      Hey Intellect
      You obviously live in another world.
      Abraham was doing his thing with the idea coming from his wife because they couldnt have children.
      This was not the will of God it was abraham and sarai’s idea to have children through Hagar
      Ishmael was not the child of promise Isaac was

      I say;
      You will want us to take your explanation but you will not take our explanation. This is Christian mentality at display. No wonder when you have power you killed everyone and turn to minority Christians to kill them. Catholics were killed, protestants were killed, Mormons were killed etc. and slaves were force converted.

      All because Christians feel superior to anyone and will like the explanation to be taken but will not take someone else’s explanation.

      Abraham had sex with his slave and it is a sin and Jesus allowed that to happen. Our prophet married a woman who had reached her puberty.

      If Jesus will allow his prophet Abraham to commit adultery, who are you to blame someone’s prophet who married a woman who has reached puberty? You have no right unless you want to fight and kill us like your Christian ancestor did and killed people.

      Thanks.

      You can believe what you want!

      Why are you talking about Jesus allowing Abraham to have sex with his slave…I thought Allah was God?

    • dc, if you apply defensive apologetics on abraham, moses, and other sinners in the ot, what would happen if you applied the same on muhammad?

      all i am asking is to be fair.

      thom stark said that if you apply the same defensive apologetics on muhammad you would make him beacon of light.

      I say;
      Allah is not Jesus Christ. Allah did treated the children of Abraham i.e. Ishmael and Isaac as same and did not discriminate against them.

      Jesus allowed rape, incest, adultery etc. in the Bible. Jesus is your God of the Bible not my God.

      Thanks.

      Hey
      Gabriel is identified in.the old testament and the mew testamemt presented himself .
      I want to know where you get the idea that it was gabriel.
      Was it Gabriel himself.
      Was it Allah
      Who told Muhammad that the angel.was Gabriel

      I say;
      Your English language is not good. What is this?

      “Gabriel is identified in.the old testament and the mew testamemt presented himself .”

      Gabriel is identified in.the old testament and the mew testamemt presented himself.

      How can a “mew testamemt” presented himself?

      So, the “mew testamemt” presented himself? to who?

      When you type in the wordrepress text box and made a mistake, a red underline will appear to alert you but you did not get that. Your grammar is horrible and unintelligible.

      Your spellings is corrected to New Testament not “mew testamemt”

      The sentence must be constructed like this;

      Gabriel is identified in both the Old and New Testaments. He presented himself in those scriptures.

      Your nasty lexis construction. I am doing all these because you said my grammar is poor. Yours is poor than mine. I said I will catch you poor grammar and it did not take long.

      Thanks.

    • Hi Intellect
      I’m really sorry but my spelling mistake while using my phone has nothing to do with the question I asked you, if you can’t answer the question just say so.

      By trying to make an issue out of my spelling mistake is just like a copyist error on a manuscript…BUT you knew exactly what I meant when you saw the word “mew” and you corrected it.

      Anyway back to the question are you going to answer?

      Who told Muhammad that the Angel in the cave was called Gabriel?

      Secondly what do you mean by anonymous Matthew?

    I answered Intellect instead of your about Matthew what do you mean by anonymous Matthew can you name all the people in Jerusalem or even a small town called Bethlehem by their surnames if that is what you are getting at.

    If you have any understanding of names and how surnames came about you wouldn’t say that.

    Anyway let me know.
