I have read and also highly recommend Dr. Bart Ehrmans book:

Such Christian faith leaders either engage in actively lying to their flock, while standing in what they consider to be the very house of God, or they engage in spinning and deflection in order to intentionally deceive others, in order to “protect” them from the fullness of the truth about the origins of their own religion.
